Rewinding the Years: Dental Care Tips for Older Adults

Once my children were grown and on their own, I decided it was time to care of me. One of the first things I did was make an appointment with the dentist. I quickly discovered that years of not keeping up with my own dental care had taken a heavy toll on my teeth. Whereas I thought my teeth were just fine, the dentist pointed out several problems that were going to require a lot of work. When talking to friends, I found out that many of them were in the same boat. This blog is for people like me who just did not have time to keep up with their own dental care.

4 Reasons Damon System Braces May Be The Right Option For You

If you have a dental misalignment, you may be considering braces. Damon system braces can be used to shift your teeth quickly and easily into proper position. Here are a few reasons that Damon system braces may be a great option for you:

The alignment is faster.

People who choose Damon system braces typically shorten their treatment process by about six months, when compared to people who use traditional braces for their alignment needs.

Damon system braces align teeth faster because of the type of brackets used. When a patient's teeth are straightened using traditional braces, the archwire, which is a metal wire that is attached to the conventional brackets by elastic bands, is systematically repositioned during orthodontic visits to apply pressure on the brackets. This consequently brings the teeth into proper alignment. This process is effective, but it can also be inefficient.

The elastic bands that connect the archwire to the brackets produce friction, which opposes the alignment force of the archwire. Thus, in order to straighten your teeth, traditional braces must produce enough force to overcome the friction from the bands and still move your teeth into proper position.

Damon system braces don't require the use of elastic bands, so more of the aligning force is fully contributed to aligning the teeth. This causes your teeth to move into place more quickly and less painfully than they would with conventional braces.

Damon system braces work well on crowded teeth.

In order to align teeth that are overly crowded, traditional braces often require the extraction of the excess teeth. With Damon system braces, fewer extractions are necessary. The crowded teeth are simply shifted into proper position in the palate, producing a wide, attractive smile.

Damon system braces have smaller brackets.

Like traditional braces, Damon system braces are available with ceramic brackets. This tooth-colored option makes the braces difficult to discern on the teeth, so your alignment process remains discreet. However, Damon system braces are even less visible than traditional brackets because they are smaller in size.

Damon system braces require less orthodontic visits.

Patients with Damon system braces don't have to visit their orthodontist as frequently for archwire adjustments. This allows adults with busy schedules to spend less time at the orthodontist's office and more time fulfilling obligations.

If you would like to have your teeth properly aligned, Damon system braces could be the right option for you. To find out if you are a good candidate for this orthodontic system, schedule an appointment with an orthodontist in your area. For more information, contact companies like Braces Inc.
